October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Today, I am remembering the women in my life who have been affected by this disease – those that are in remission, and those that have lost their battle.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the opening reception of Fresh Perspectives 2009, a juried photography exhibit featuring 28 of Atlanta’s emerging photographers. I am so honored to have two of my fine prints, “be happy” and “collect your thoughts“, included in this exhibit! This is the very first time that my work has appeared in a gallery – and the experience was phenomenal!
I was joined by friends and family who came out to support me and my work. Nervous, excited, humbled, proud….. just a few words that describe what I felt last night. With a glass of wine in my hand, I took a moment to step back and take everything in – I want to remember this moment for a very long time!
And as I look back on this experience, I feel that I am proof that you can dream a little dream and make small strides each day towards your goal. You just have to be willing to push through your fears and quiet those doubts that might creep in your mind. You can do it.

I began the first few days of September in Italy. Looking back at this month’s mosaic of my Discovery Project, that makes me smile! I am transported back that beautiful place – and my heart soars when I look back at the images I captured there.
I have to be honest with you – I missed a day this month. For reasons that I do not wish to share with the internet, I did not take an image on September 11. I cannot begin to explain to you the pit in my stomach when I realized at 2AM that I had not taken a picture that previous day. But I’m not going to beat myself up about it. As a mother, I know how hard I can be on myself sometimes. I am not going to throw in the towel. Why? Because life happens. I knew when I started this project that it would be hard – but I made a commitment to myself. The very next day, I pulled out my camera and clicked away. Missing one day is not going to stop me! At the end of my project, I’ll continue for an additional day.
My favorite image from this month? Taken on September 19, 2009:

Do you have a favorite image that you took this month? Please do share, I’d love to see it!
If you are keeping up, you find my Discovery Project here (and links to all 9 months so far!). And my previous month’s reviews here.

This, my friends, concludes my posts from Italy! It has been a pleasure to share my trip with you. I hope that you have enjoyed seeing Italy through my eyes. I have many, many more photos from my trip – and I will share bits and pieces here and there. But for now, my regular visual blogging will continue.
Mini-prints from Bella Italia will be available in my shop until the end of this month. After that time, only a select few of these images will be available for purchase.
I hope that I have inspired you to put Italy on your places to visit!

There was sweet fruit (my favorite) to be found around every corner in Italy!

Yesterday, I picked up my prints – “collect your thoughts” and “be happy” which I had professionally framed for my first gallery showing! Almost took my breathe away – I’m so excited! More soon…… Have a wonderful weekend!

It’s easy to overlook the little details of Rome with so many of the historic ruins. I simply loved the charm….
