Purple – one of my favorite colors. There is just something so soft, serene, and peaceful about purple, especially when found in nature.

One of my favorite summer time memories as a child is hearing the creak of my grandmother’s screen door opening and slamming shut, followed by the pitter patter of our little feet running in and out of the house.
She would inevitably scold us, “Stay in, or stay out!” but that hardly stopped us. We’d just laugh head back outside, the screen door slamming shut behind us. When it was time to eat, she would push the door open slightly, and stick her head out and call for us. The creaking of the door announcing her presence way before we actually heard her voice. Oh, I miss her so!
Do you have a favorite summertime memory from your childhood?
Once a year, I get together with a group of my girlfriends from college. This has been a mini-tradition for us, and I look forward to it each and every year!
This past weekend did not disappoint. We relaxed over wine, we laughed, we dressed up, we went out, and we had a great time. It was a chance to shed our responsibilities for just a couple of days and enjoy being our true selves. As a mother, you definitely need those every once in a while!

I am often asked, “What inspires you? What inspires your photography?” This blog is my answer to that question.
Gabrielle Loves will feature words, images, people, and places that inspire my soul and my photography. It is the space where inspiration and photography gracefully merge and I share things that make my heart leap.
This has been a vision of mine for a while now, and I am so happy to be able to share it with you ♥. I hope that you are inspired to be creative – pick up a paintbrush, grab your camera, explore!

Seven months.
Honestly, when I grabbed my camera and snapped a shot on January 1, beginning my Discovery Project, I thought it would be a neat idea to take a picture every day. To document my life for year. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I had no idea how much I would enjoy this. How my family would rally around and support me, reminding me, “Did you take a picture today?” How calm and confident I would feel behind the camera. How much my style would adapt and change until it felt like “my own”. How I would push myself by going different places and doing different things. How much I would enjoy stopping and savoring little moments of my life. How much I would stretch my creativity….. I had no idea.
It’s hard for me to explain how much I am committed to this project. I am so proud to look back and see the fruits of my labor. And to be over the half way mark, priceless! What most strikes me as I look back through my images is the change of seasons. January so very different from June!

These pearls were a gift from my mother. I had them for years before I actually started wearing them.
I find that I have to wait for just the “right” time for many things that I undertake. I can’t be rushed, but I know in my heart when the time is right.

I am loving these long summer days with Gabrielle! She will be 3 in August and I don’t know where the time went. What’s the saying? “With kids, the days are long, but the years are short?” I couldn’t agree more.
I’m also loving “Ah Ha!” moments in photography like Alicia’s. I feel the same way when something finally “clicks” for me. Don’t you?
