discovery project – one month review

january-daily-discovery-collage

At the beginning of January, I began my first photography project, Daily Discoveries.  This project documents simple moments that I capture everyday, my version of a 365 project.

I must say that I absolutely ~love~ it!  I have truly began to look at the world differently.  All throughout my day, I am constantly stopping, observing, and taking in the little things.  Previousy, I was under the false impression that there had to be some event, some special scene,  for me to photograph – how wrong I was!

I find that some of my favorite pictures are those of my normal, everyday life.   There were times before that I would notice something and say to myself, “Man, I wish I had my camera…”  Well, now, I do.  I admit that sometimes carrying my camera with me everywhere I go is a bit heavy, but I have vowed to get a larger purse!

My love for photography has strengthened as a result.  I wake up and think, “What I will I capture today?”  It’s my little extra something to look forward to during my day.  The best part is looking back at all the images I captured.  Little pieces of my life, that otherwise, I would have forgotten – or would have gone unnoticed.  If I feel this way after a month, I can’t imagine how I feel at the completion of this project.

My favorite image of this month? It’s this lonely leaf taken on January 7.  I love the softness of this image.

Do you have a favorite image that you took this past month?  I’d love to see it!

i am so glad to have found your blog.. i came by from the “poem in January” challenge… i have already visited many of your friends and looked through many your beautiful photographs and i am inspired by your simple captures, the everyday-ness of them as you say :) and my camera too is heavy which means i leave it home more times than not when i am not intending to take photographs… today i will act as though there are photos calling me from everywhere and haul it along in my bag.. i already have some bigger bags i could use :) my favorite photo of the month? this one

Thanks so much for your kind words, Robin.

I love your photo – so dreamy! I love your words, “my reward for not going after the picture but allowing it to find me” – so true, so true.

You are a positive breath of fresh air! I love it here! Your work is beautiful! I am the same way, I get up and my day beings with the thought of what I can capture through my lens. Your work evokes passion! Bliss. : )

Yay, we have made it through a month, and I feel the same way you do about this project. I think this photo is my favorite of the month http://teriargo.wordpress.com/2009/01/11/11365/. At least it was until yesterday, before I got the shot of Brett that you have already commented on. That was just one of those shots. He was getting his stuff out of the back of the pick-up and I was on the other side of the bed, I called his name and snap, a picture I love was made. I really enjoy your blog. Thanks for all the nice comments on my photos.

I love all those photos. They really are daily discoveries. :)

I put my tiny camera in my purse .. I figured I’d be more likely to pull that out on a daily basis and shoot – so far I was right. Maybe next year I’ll find a bigger purse ..

I love your idea of a monthly review. If you don’t mind, I might borrow it from you, if that’s okay? I take my camera with me wherever I go – it has a home in a backpack so it is nice and protected and close at hand. =)

I just began my process of capturing a photo a day. I started it because I am constantly seeing beauty around me, and I always wish I had brought my camera. Now I vow to take it everywhere with me, and capture those moments. Your photos are so inspiring, I cannot wait to see my project develop.
